DIY Glitter Wine Glasses!

DIY glitter wine glasses

I instagrammed a photo of my DIY glitter wine glasses this weekend and many of you were asking for more details/how I made them! While I didn't document the whole making process, I will tell you that this is easy peasy and makes for such a fun addition to a party! I made these for my little sister's bachelorette party this weekend, and making each glass a different color made for no confusion and no need for wine charms! (Plus, what bachelorette party is complete without a little glitter?)

Here's what you need:
Wine glasses
Tape (painter's tape or masking tape)
Mod Podge (I used high gloss)
A paint brush (I used a little foam one)
Loose glitter (I got a couple of multi-packs from Michaels)

... and wine, for when you're done! ;)

I started with plain wine glasses from the dollar store (you can get cheap wine glasses many places, but our local dollar stores have lots!) and then  I took painter's tape and wrapped it around the top of the glass, far down enough so that when you take a drink your lips don't hit the glitter! I only taped the top, and left the bottom to be a little more haphazard! I used a small foam paint brush and brushed on the mod podge, then shook on the glitter (over a newspaper, to catch all the falling pieces!) until all of the area I mod podged was covered in glitter! I let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then pealed off the tape. I let it dry for another 30 minutes or so, and then painted another layer of mod podge over the glitter to seal it. It will look white-ish when you do this, but don't worry, it dries completely clear & the glitter stays just as sparkly! Let dry & voila! Your very own glitter wine glasses!

The glitter stayed in tact for the most part and didn't come off as we were drinking. I'm not entirely sure how these wash, as I left them behind, but think they'd hold up fine with a careful handwash!

I can't credit this idea to any one person, I read multiple versions of how people did it by searching "Glitter Wine  Glasses" on Pinterest & just went with it! Will definitely be doing this again for future parties!

  10. Love them! Even if they aren't very washing friendly, you could use them for a party and then use them for tea light holders after wards? I think the candles would reflect nicely off the glitter!! I feel a Christmas idea coming on... haha.
